The life lines of Alain Jacomy
A row of century old Scots pines link the manor house to the graveyard, forming a kind of life-line from life to death.
These trees are lines of strength torn between a constant search for light and a rooting to the feeding ground. Horizontally, the branches transmit sensations and vibrations. “I saw the light...” announces a Jacomy banner, and “I entered life with everything going for me.”
The network of threads weaves and knots itself around, tightening its grip; words become dense and oppressive like orders. As time unrolls, speeding up, I am completely paralysed by the weight of clichés yet moved by the urgency of the ultimate count down, “I don’t know where I am...”
And suddenly, a great calm. “We are free from the rapids”: I turn around and consider the narrow tunnel that hasn’t left me unscathed. I start walking again, weighed down by my vagaries, free from any duties and free at last to trace my own destiny, to confront the horizon, even if, far away, outside the limits of the garden, the last pine tree leans over the graves. “No re-entry permitted”.
